Eating Alone

One of my friends told me today about a restaurant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn whose chef has devoted himself to serving up silent dinners.  Dinners in which, he claims, the flavors of the food are not distracted by the conversations of the diners themselves.  You sit across from your dinner companion and simply chew.

And I thought, how very much like eating alone that would be.
